Free Zion-I Mixtape

Free Zion-I Mixtape

With the buzz already building from the leak of tracks featuring remixes, verses and interpretations of/by the likes of Santogold, Public Enemy, Talib Kweli & more, the time has come for Zion I’s The Search and the Seizure mixtape to hit the streets. Built for heavy walkman rotation in the classic sense, the A-side features supa emcee Zumbi and mega producer AmpLive putting their spin on hip-hop classics, with the B-side stepping into indie rock and electro territory. Boom-bap addicts and fans of Amp’s recent remixes for Radiohead, Jamie Lidell, Tapes N Tapes and more should have plenty to sink their teeth into. Look for super-limited cassette editions if you’re lucky, and make sure to grab The TakeOver on January 27th.

Rock Paper Scissors isn't just a fun way to determine who rides shotgun, its the new album by Guelph Ontario underground Hip Hop veteran Noah23. After releasing 2004's Jupiter Sajitarius strictly in Europe and a slew of side projects in the last few years including the Clout, The Fool, Famous Playaz, Weird Apples, Bourgeois Cyborgs, and two Crunk23 albums, the Guelph Ontario native is set to unleash his swan song.

The dazzling artwork was done by indie rap cover darling Albane of Paris France who is not the only international contribution. Rock Paper Scissors is an album of duets featuring artists from France, Germany, Hawaii, Canada and more.

Guests include Cadence Weapon, Josh Martinez, Athena, Baracuda, Ceschi Ramos (Toca), Modulok (Red Ants), Delectable, Staple Mouth, Bleubird, and many more.

With production from Factor, Giovanni Marks (Subtitle), Small is Beautiful (formerly the drummer in the Unicorns & Islands), MadadaM, Fresh Kils, Debmaster ect.

Noah23 has fleshed out an immensely ambitious project into a collection of sweet and simple hits. This will be one of the most original as well as defining independent Hip Hop records made in recent years. Not short on diversity, R.P.S. takes us through the usual boombap terrain with a healthy dose of swagger and metaphysical lyrics, also touching on the sounds of electro, jungle, rock & pop. The loose theme is childhood games and nostalgia but topics such as ecological disaster and relationship woes find their place among lighthearted and comical tracks. The vibe dips to the dark end of the spectrum at points and achieves an overall balance of styles.

Kno Of Cunninlynguists Calls Out Mf Doom

Here's an open letter written by Kno, producer for Hip-Hop group The Cunninlynguists.

Dear Daniel Dumile a.k.a. MF Doom a.k.a. Zev Love X a.k.a. King Geedorah a.k.a. Metal Fingers a.k.a. Viktor Vaughn a.k.a. Ducktor Doom a.k.a. Victor von Doom a.k.a. Mr. Soft Taco a.k.a. Mr. 78' Cutlass a.k.a. "That Guy Who Enjoys Fingerpainting."

I'm writing this as a concerned artist, business-owner and generally even-keeled loather of all things douche-like.

It came to my attention in late 2007 that you pulled a series of no-shows and Super Dave-esque stunt double lip-syncing fiascos in Pomona, San Diego, San Francisco, Rock The Bells in San Bernardino and then in Atlanta. The latter saw the crowd throwing beer at your body double, who subsequently exited the stage only to steal all the merch money and door receipts, insuring noone would be granted a refund for your clone's piss-poor Milli Vanilli routine. Classy.

The whole thing was shrug-inducing because I'm not a huge fan of your body of work, so pardon my inability to completely connect with the disdain of someone paying $25 dollars to see a slightly rotund, middle aged man in a dirty Gladiator mask stand around onstage and talk into a microphone only to be duped into watching a presumably younger, slightly-less rotund man in a dirty Gladiator mask stand around onstage and pretend to talk into a microphone. As the old folks say, "buyer beware".

It was shrug-inducing, that is, until someone passed me a link to a discussion in which a talent buyer for a well-known Cali venue clearly states;

"...needless to say, hiphop will not be taking place at the venue again (we will still book alternative artists like sage, atmosphere, subtle, all through legit agencies that we regularly do business with)."

Ok, now wait a minute.

You pissing on your most dedicated fans by cheating them out of their hard-earned cash, while being completely foul, was ultimately no business of mine. At worst it might create a small conundrum for Doom fans torn between investing money in your possibly fraudulent live show or using that loot to re-up on another sack of Northern Lights kush. Not a tough call, I'd assume.

But on the flipside, seeing talent buyers publically saying they'll only book "alternative artists" like Sage and Atmosphere (Holy awkward racial undertones, Batman) in the future because of your method of handling business? Now I have an issue.

See, people don't buy much music anymore. Touring is what allows artists who aren't supervillainous children of Latverian gypsies bent on world domination to meet our fans, fuel our art and put money into our projects and pockets. As part of an "indie" act that operates in the same ever-narrowing circles as you, I can definitely say the ability to book proper gigs with reputable promoters and venue operators is becoming more and more scarce by the month, especially with the poor reputation live hip-hop has for professionalism and punctuality as well as the economic woes of many venues and agencies. The recession is a sumbitch.

So, if any artist pisses off these promoters, fans or venue owners then ultimately they are fucking with my money.

I thought about discussing this last fall, but I decided against it in an attempt to stay away from negative energy. Fast-forward to August 9th 2008, and apparently "you" (I use the term loosely at this point) were at it again, having been re-booked at Rock The Bells in San Bernardino (How does that even happen?) and subsequently getting booed. Again.

Now, surely there is some type of explanation for all of this. Although it isn't an excuse to be deceptive, some said you were dangerously ill. Personal health is no joke. Your label denied it, though, and continued pushing your tour dates and new remixes of your old product. Some people, like the only man to ever lie to our fans about our involvement in a live show just to sell tickets, one Mr. Jason Swartz (who also happens to be your booking agent) claimed in the Village Voice that this fuckery was a breath of fresh air and "just [your] style". Yes, the same Mr. Swartz that intentionally misled our fans, the local promoters and operators of The Fox Theatre in Boulder back in 2005 in order to put a couple extra dollars in his pocket. Hmm, sounds familiar.

But I digress. Maybe you had a string of family emergencies. Maybe you developed consistent, unshakable Traveler's Diarrhea. Maybe you were fed up with curly-haired, New Era-wearing snowboarders asking you to sign their $300 Doom SB Dunks. Maybe you simply got tired of the smell inside of that mask. Who knows.

Yeah, you're the "villain" or whatever gimmick you use to sell records. I've even seen a couple people calling this fiasco "brilliant". Oh, the sweet Rap Snack™-flavored irony of anti-mainstream types letting this slide by deeming it "genius marketing". Genius marketing? Beanie Babies, Hannah Montana, Girls Gone Wild. Those are examples of genius marketing. This looks like a lazy or medically incapacitated individual duping his most dedicated fans repeatedly to the tune of a few thousand dollars while those that also stand to profit (read: labels, friends and booking agents) scuttle around attempting to make excuses for him before the loot dries up.

Whatever the case may be, I implore you and anyone involved in this to stop screwing your fans and your peers and get your ducks in a row. Don't make me throw on some blue stretch leotards and put out a solo record.

Your Friend In Jesus,
Kno of CunninLynguists

Bill Cosby goes hip hop

Comedian Bill Cosby speaks with reporters in this July 2007 file photo. The 70-year-old has recorded a hip-hop CD set for release next month. Bill Cosby goes hip hop with album to be released in May; rhymes provided by guest rappers

By SANDY COHEN – 6 hours ago

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Bill Cosby's path has taken him from pudding pops to hip hop.

The 70-year-old has recorded a hip-hop album set for release next month. "Cosby Narratives Vol. 1: State of Emergency" blends the comedian's concepts and stories with a hip-hop, pop and jazz soundtrack.

"I do not rap on any of these things," Cosby told The Associated Press on Monday. "I wouldn't know how to fix my mouth to say some of the words."

Cosby said the hip-hop music he hears is profane and degrading. His album is "the opposite of what I think is the profanity for no particular reason, the misogyny for no particular reason," he said. "It really looks at the frustration and the anger that a young man may have.

"The album, assembled by Cosby's longtime musical collaborator Bill "Spaceman" Patterson, contains rhymes provided by guest rappers. The subject matter? "The value of an education. The value of respecting one's self and ... giving (listeners) a chance to raise their self-esteem and confidence," Cosby said.

Patterson said he was surprised when Cosby first inquired about making a rap record — until the comedian revealed he wouldn't be the one doing the rapping.

"People started speculating, is he going to rap about Jell-O Pudding Pops or what?" Patterson said. "But he's always been involved in music and he was there for the first generation of spoken word. ... He has always understood rap's potential, but he was appalled by the foul language and the misogyny — the way people used a medium that could be used to elevate people, to open their eyes and provoke thought."

Cosby made the album as a companion to his 2007 best-selling book, "Come on, People: On the Path from Victims to Victors." And though he doesn't expect the CD to be a huge hit, it won't be his last hip-hop venture.

"We can do even better," he said. "The next one will be even more cheerleading."

Ghostface Killah "Wallabee Champ" OUT MARCH 25

Ghostface Killah "Wallabee Champ" OUT MARCH 25

Looking Foward to this, behind GZA i think Ghost is the dopest in wu-tang,
sure this album will be raw

review :
Tony Starks, Ironman, Ghost Deini, Pretty Toney, Wally Champ, GFK, Starky Love, Dennis Coles : whatever you call Ghostface Killah he is one of the most supreme talents to pick up a mic, ever. In a world of disposable talent, one of the things that sets Ghost apart and allows him to tower above the rest, consistency. As a member of the Hip Hop collective Wu-Tang Clan, he takes his name from the main villain in the film “Ninja Checkmate” (aka “The Mystery of Chess Boxing”).

After Wu-Tang Clan achieved breakthrough commercial success in the early 90s, Ghostface, like his clan-mates, began a solo career. His turned out to be one of the most critically and commercially successful solo careers of all the group members. Early in his career, he would wear a mask during performances and photo shoots. It was rumored this was because Ghostface was wanted by the police and that he would not publicly remove it until his name was cleared. Since his debut on the opening verse of “Bring da Ruckus”, the first track from the Wu Tang Clan’s critically acclaimed debut, 1993’s “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)”, Ghostface has made little effort to appeal to anyone outside of his loyal New York street fan base, yet he continues to achieve surprising commercial success.

His latest, “The Wallabee Champ”, is a collection of rarities and non-album cuts that span Ghost’s entire career. Full of raw beats and flowing rhymes, the CD features guest rappers including The Wu-Tang Clan, some of his boys from Theodore Unit including Shawn Wigs and Trife Da God, and a top shelf Rap names Jadakiss, Lil Wayne, Prodigy, Beanie Siegel, Styles P and last but certainly not least, Fat Joe. This comp will be enjoyed by anyone that likes good Hip Hop music. Ghostface Killah “The Wallabee Champ”… an album not to be missed !

G-Unit's DJ Whoo Kid Set To Retire From Hip Hop

G-Unit's DJ Whoo Kid Set To Retire

G-Unit’s highly acclaimed DJ Whoo Kid has prepared his retirement from the mixtape business and the world of hip-hop.

The Queens native expressed his intentions and the shady actions behind the music industry, specifically in the realm of hip-hop.

“I can’t take it anymore. Hip-hop is a violent, ruthless business. When you’re popping, they have ways of deading you. I just want to be the one to dead my career,” Whoo Kid said to Baller Status.

He also explained the amount of work needed for the industry and his appearance as factors to his retirement.

“It’s a lot of work. I can’t do it. I’m very tired [and] I’m not trying to be an old DJ wearing a chain with a tight shirt,” Whoo Kid said.

To further illustrate the seriousness of his retirement, Whoo Kid explained his plan to leave the U.S.

“I’m moving to Thailand. I already got everything planned. I got a house in Hawaii and I’m moving to Thailand,” he said.

Although he will be releasing the second volume of G-Unit’s ThisIs50.com series, "The Elephant in the Sand," Whoo Kid has maintained that he does not have plans on furthering his mixtapes.

Despite the withdrawal from mixtape outlet, he will continue business ventures with an emphasis on television, radio, and marketing through his Shadyville Entertainment company.

Until Whoo Kid finally puts the DJ set up for good, he may still be heard on Shade 45’s G-Unit Radio show and seen in his own entertainment magazine, POW!.

      Rapper 'Shocked' by Daughter's Killing

ATLANTA (March 2) - The rap star Juvenile is "shocked and devastated" by the shooting death of his young daughter, the girl's mother and another child, his manager said Saturday.

The 32-year-old rapper is still trying to cope with the death of 4-year-old Jelani; her mother, 39-year-old Joy Deleston; and the woman's daughter Micaiah, 11, whose bodies were found Thursday night in their home, said manager Aubrey Francis.

"It really shocked him and devastated him to the point where I've never seen him before," Francis said. "Right now he is relaxing and trying to grasp everything of what has happened."

Meanwhile, 17-year-old Anthony Tyrone Terrell Jr. is being held in the DeKalb County jail, charged in the deaths of his mother - a Gwinnett County sheriff's deputy - and siblings at the home near Lawrenceville, outside Atlanta. He was arrested Friday.

Deleston brought a paternity lawsuit in 2004, claiming that Juvenile, whose real name is Terius Gray, was Jelani's father, Gwinnett County court records show. Both parties later agreed Juvenile was the father.

Juvenile, who is in New Orleans, had been making regular child support payments, Francis said.

In 1998, Juvenile released his third album, "400 Degreez," which sold 4 million copies. At one time he was part of the four-man group The Hotboyz, along with Lil Wayne, Young Turk and B.G.

Attorney Randy Kessler, who represented Juvenile in the paternity suit, said Saturday he had not talked with the rapper about the killings.

"Any time you have a situation like that, it's shocking," Kessler said.

Terrell was taken to jail in neighboring DeKalb County to avoid any potential conflict because Deleston worked for Gwinnett County, said Lawrenceville police spokeswoman Illana Spellman. She could not confirm Friday whether Deleston's service weapon was used.

Because of his age, prosecutors cannot seek the death penalty against Terrell. A preliminary hearing will be set next week in Gwinnett County Superior Court, prosecutor Danny Porter said.

Defense attorney Lyle Porter did not return calls Friday and Saturday.

      Camjackers 2006

When i first started watching this movie i thought it was horrible but i was wrong ot judge it so quickly, as it went on it got better and better, The soundtrack consists of underground artist 2mex, phoenix orion, orko eloheim, which is was drew me in to watch the dvd in the first place.
Also in the film perspectives from a number of different hip hop artists in LA who basically spit their minds on hip hop and other relative subjects. Well i enjoyed the film give it a look and tell what you think about it. ~1

" It's cool man. We've got black friends..." Two rich, clueless film school grads ("the Filmfakers") are shooting a modernized "ghetto" interpretation of an ancient Greek play on the mean streets of Los Angeles. Their equipment is "borrowed" by three street youths ("the Camjackers"), who shoot a compelling documentary on underground hip hop. The Filmfakers rip off the Camjackers' film and rise to fame and fortune. The Camjackers see their stolen work on TV and seek revenge.

      METHODMAN AND REDMANS PRANKSHOW STUNG

Never knew such a show exsisted, I't has some pretty memorable pranks

"Stung" with Method Man and Redman. Posted below is a clip where they decided to prank Ludacris by giving him a shitty ass beat and telling him to spit on it. In my opinion Luda rode that beat pretty good despite the drum sequence.
